The Amish Auction

An Auction is when some people come to a place and before they start everyone gets a card with a large number uniqe from everyone else's. One peron who is prepared for it goes to the front with some things like pumpkins, apples, carrots, and other vegetables. Then some helper guys bring something up and the person in the front says an amount of money. When he's done announcing, whoever's willing to pay that amount of money holds their card silently. If more then one person hold their card up, the guy in front goes on to a higher number. The last person who is willing to pay that amount gets it. One breezy October afternoon we went to an auction. But this was not just any auction, it was an Amish Auction. As soon as we got there, we went in, found some seats, and settled in. We got some pumpkins to carve and put on our porch for decoration. Some were white.

There is a pandemic going on. We are homeschooling this year because: (grown-up's opinion) 1-safer from covid-19 germs at home 2-parents uneasy about age appropriateness and instability of the distance learning provided by our school district 3-connection with people- family! instead of connection with screens 4-SIEZE the oppertunity to do something fun and memorable and learn together through traveling.(Dad's job become fully remote enabling him to work from anywhere in U.S.) (student's opinion) I think it is interesting. It's not fun the same way regular school is fun but mom and dad try to fill it with activity. There aren't as many people so in a way there's less variety. But there's more time for students (us!) to go at their own pace with less kids to teach.

Nashville the party place - by Madeleine

Nashville is the capital of Tennessee. On Broadway where the Honky Tonks are is the most crowded place I've ever seen. There were party trucks! (Party trucks had people on top partying). There were these cool things called pedal taverns. People were partying on those too. Here's how pedal taverns work. People sit on these seats and pedal the pedals to make the tavern move. While they are pedaling sometimes they drink something. There were so many lights and people. A part of Nashville I liked was a really long bridge. We walked half way across it and then we turned back. We saw bluish water under the bridge and a lot of lights from Nashville. It was a pretty view. Nashville by Amelia

Our trip to Nashville was full of surprises. The city was nothing like I expected it to be like. I was thinking of a touristy place with gift shops and old buildings and some bands playing under a pavillion. Nashville was nothing like that. First of all it was LOUD!!!!!! All the chatter of the ever-present crowds combatted the noisy racket of about 50 bands playing at once from all the bars. We walked on a huge pedestrian bridge because we thought it would be the most pandemic-free place that was still worthwhile. Everyone was unmasked, and the rare occasion of a person wearing one, was spoiled by the fact that they wore it wrong. They didn't cover their nose, instead, it's highest extent was the upper lip. Oceans of people swarmed the streets, and it was barely safe in the car, because there were all these weird bar buses, where teenagers scream very loudly and drink and blast music, breaking everyone's eardrums.
